Karen Herron Joiner was born in Atlanta, Georgia and grew
up in the small town of Yatesville, Georgia, about 75 miles south of
Atlanta. She lived with her paternal grandparents and great grandmother and
her collie dog on their farm in the country. She attended school, all 12
grades in one school, in Yatesville. After graduation she attended the
University of Georgia. Mrs. Joiner worked in the Data Processing Department
of several hospitals and a law firm in the Atlanta area until she retired
from the VA Medical Center in 2006 and moved back to Yatesville. She is now
enjoying retirement and traveling and has a home based travel agency.
Through the years Ms. Joiner enjoyed cooking many recipes for her family and
friends. Her recipes are designed for the family cook that loves to eat and
either hates to cook or does not have time. Most of them are quick, easy and
do not require many ingredients, but good. The family always laughed as she
lost her favorite cookie recipe every year around Christmas. This lost
recipe led to the gathering of many of the family’s favorite recipes and
putting them into a book. These recipes are a collection of recipes from
friends and family, many were handed down through generations, and some
evolved from other recipes. Some of these recipes date back to the 1800’s.
We hope you will enjoy these recipes as much as Ms. Joiner’s family has
through the years.
